Injection Guide for GS Treatment
1. Preparation
• Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the medication.
• Use a new sterile syringe and needle for each injection to prevent contamination.
• Ensure the medication vial is at room temperature before use. Gently roll the vial between your hands if necessary.
2. Dosage Calculation
• Calculate the exact dosage based on your cat’s weight and treatment plan.
• Double-check the calculation to avoid underdosing or overdosing.
3. Drawing the Medication
• Clean the vial’s rubber stopper with an alcohol swab.
• Insert the syringe into the vial and draw the prescribed amount of medication.
• Remove any air bubbles by tapping the syringe gently and pushing the plunger until only the medication remains.
4. Choosing the Injection Site
• The most common injection site is the loose skin on the back of the neck (scruff).
• Rotate injection sites daily to minimize irritation or discomfort.
5. Administering the Injection
• Gently lift the scruff to create a “tent” of skin.
• Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle into the skin fold, avoiding muscle or veins.
• Slowly inject the medication and withdraw the needle gently.
6. Post-Injection Care
• Gently massage the injection site to help distribute the medication and reduce discomfort.
• Monitor your cat for any signs of an adverse reaction, such as swelling, redness, or lethargy.
7. Disposal
• Safely dispose of the used syringe and needle in a designated sharps container.
8. Monitoring and Follow-Up
• Keep track of injection times, dosage, and sites in a treatment log.
• Consult your veterinarian regularly for progress checks and any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
Note: Always follow your veterinarian’s instructions and consult them if you have any questions or concerns about administering the medication.
